Undo Type 2 Diabetes was created out of necessity.  I can’t say that I am a former type 2 diabetic yet but I am working on it.

My own journey to wellness began on the first Tuesday in February 2009 just after 2:00 pm EST with a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes and morbid obesity. My doctor called it a lifestyle disease that I could ‘fix’.  My first thought was “So what the hell does that mean?”  Then he said, “Eat less, move more… and take these pills”.  My second thought was the same as my first, “So what the hell does that mean?” Let me save everyone a lot of time, money and frustration by shouting, “EAT LESS MOVE MORE” and “TAKE THESE PILLS” doesn’t ‘FIX’ anything!”  And my rocky road to knowledge, self-discovery and health began.

I spent the next 5 years trying to ‘fix’ me… and failing.  With every best-selling book on diet, weight-loss and wellness that hit the store shelf, I was on board.  Completely on-board … immediately on board… in one day on board. I kept wanting to believe that the next book held nestled within its pages the magic bullet that would ‘fix’ me.  However within a couple of weeks, I’d be ill, feel like a failure, give up and move on to the next miracle ‘fix’ in the news. I was riding the ‘diet-of-the-week’ roulette wheel and not getting healthier.

Albert Einstein, a very wise man, said,”The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.  On my 57th birthday I said ‘Enough’.  The thought of spending another 5 years obese and with irregular control over my blood glucose levels could cost me a limb, an arm or leg… literally!  I found my why. I wanted to KEEP MY FEET!  Knowing my WHY made all the difference.   This moment was my personal Tipping Point towards wellness success.

I needed facts, not hype. It was time to go back to school.  I enrolled in what I called “Get Cathy Healthy School” in 2014 and the experience transformed my life. Guess what?  I wasn’t broken.  I did not need to ‘fix’ me.   I needed to be nourished.  I needed to be educated. I needed to make changes gradually so that my mind and body could keep up.  I needed someone to talk to, to coach me through the rough spots. I also needed someone to hold me accountable for the things that I said I would do.  I lost 50 pounds testing out each of the dietary theories properly. And it brought me a new career as a Health Coach.

In 2015, I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories; everything from Ayurveda, gluten-free, ketogenic and Paleo, to raw, vegan, and macrobiotics, and everything in between. My education has equipped me with extensive, cutting-edge knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and prevention. Drawing on my expertise, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes and choose health-promoting ways that produce real and lasting results. My clients develop a deeper understanding of food and lifestyle choices that work best for them, improving their energy,  health, and happiness.

Your diagnosis has probably rock your world ..  and not in a good way.  It’s not all about your blood sugar.  We talk about things beyond food, seeking to bring balance to important elements of your life such as love and relationship as well as career and money.
